Jang Won

This is the 2nd post in our series on the Korean restaurants of Annandale, VA.

Jang Won is the home of the 4ft noodle!

Located at 4210 John Marr Dr, Jang Won is a free-standing restaurant in an area where most of them are connected to other shopping centers, office buildings, etc. It is bright with lots of windows and a large dining room.

It’s always busy and the staff is always hustling!

One of their signature dishes is 4ft long noodles in a black bean sauce. They give you scissors at the table to cut the noodles!

But first came the banchan, tasty little side dishes to take the edge off your appetite while you wait for your order. Jang Won’s kimchi is really delicious and fresh, with a bit more of a spicy kick than most. They also included sweet pickled radishes, and small pieces of raw onions, which are surprisingly good when dipped in the thick umami sauce that comes with them.

Then came the haemul-pageon, or seafood pancake. We get this at each restaurant as our way to compare one to another. It is our litmus test.

We had a cameraman this day, our friend Andrew Cohen joined us and that gave us an excuse to order more food! We got the noodles with black bean sauce but also a stir-fried seafood with fried rice, served with a side order of the same black bean sauce. It had robust flavor and fantastic texture.

My favorite part of this is the long food-grade scissors they give you because the noodles are 4ft long! Before we could mis them into the sauce Louis had to cut them to a manageable length!

This is a dish that I would recommend to anyone, so if you are considering trying Korean food for the first time and nervous about what to order, start here at Jang Won for the finest version we’ve had of this dish of fresh handmade noodles in Black Bean sauce.

The staff is also very attentive and friendly—and that is not always the case! They are busy and hustling, but never make you feel rushed and our server even paused to take a selfie with us!

Check out our 5 minute video review at the top for a better look at the food and put Jang Won on your list!
